Tim Granshaw
Spitfire Pilot
Tim was captivated by all things aviation from his earliest memory. Subsequently, he has spent most of his life working around aircraft, from being a member of Aerodrome Operations, to Aviation Fire and Rescue, to attaining his Flight Information Service Officer licence to work in Air Traffic Control.
Taking the “scenic route”, Tim’s career took him through the aforementioned roles before qualifying as a Commercial Pilot and Flight Instructor. Tim is also a qualified Aerobatic and Upset Prevention Recovery Training (UPRT) Instructor.
Tim was privileged enough to “cut his teeth” instructing on the De Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk before advancing onto the North American Texan T-6G. He was then presented with the opportunity to convert onto the Supermarine Spitfire TR9. Tim first flew the Spitfire solo in January 2018 under the watchful eye of John Dodd, one of the country’s most experienced warbird pilots. Four years later, with some 800 flights in his log book, his “Spitfire Smile” is still just as big!
Tim is currently Spitfires.com’s Chief Flying Instructor. He conducts training on a variety of our aircraft and flies our Spitfire TR9’s for flight experiences with members of the public.
