After strapping in and running through final checks with your pilot, the Spitfire’s Merlin engine will roar to life. Moments later, you’re airborne, soaring above dramatic coastlines, rolling countryside and iconic landmarks from the perspective of a real WWII fighter pilot.

If conditions allow, you’ll even be given the opportunity to take the controls yourself. Or you can sit back and enjoy as your pilot performs thrilling rolls, dives and aerobatics.

From start to finish, your Spitfire flight is a visceral, breathtaking experience that connects you to the power, beauty and legacy of this extraordinary machine.

In short, yes! If conditions allow, we’ll always offer you the opportunity to take control of the Spitfire in flight.

Your pilot will handle takeoff, landing and aerobatic maneuvers like the exhilarating victory roll. But when it’s safe to do so, you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to take control and fly a real Spitfire yourself!

After your briefing, you’ll be fitted with a flight suit, which you’ll wear over the top of your clothes for the whole flight. So we recommend wearing a t-shirt, comfortable shirt or light jumper with jeans, chinos or similar trousers. Clothes made with natural fibres are best if possible.

For safety reasons, it’s also important that you wear enclosed shoes, not sandals or flip flops.

• You’ll be wearing a fire-resistant Nomex flight suit, leather flying gloves, a life jacket with a personal locator beacon, and a helmet with integrated headphones and microphone
• You’ll also be fitted with a parachute that has a static line attached to the aircraft, which our operations officers will teach you how to use
• The seats in the aircraft are also equipped with ‘Hooker’ four-point harnesses, and our operations officers will explain how to work the central buckle and clasp
• We thoroughly inspect each aircraft at the beginning of every flying day
• Professional engineers and the pilot conduct additional checks between flights
• Each Spitfire receives a more in-depth inspection every 25 hours, with a comprehensive inspection every year

Yes. In the many years we’ve been offering Spitfire flight experiences, we’ve never had a serious safety issue. So you can have utmost confidence when you book a Spitfire flight.

We make every effort to ensure your safety:

We’ll try to offer you an alternative day to fly if your flight is cancelled because of:

• Aircraft serviceability
• Weather
• Events beyond our control
• An illness that prevents you from flying

If we have to shorten the flight due to a technical or weather issue, we’ll try to fly again at the nearest opportunity to make up for lost time. But we can refund the difference in time if you prefer.

However, if you decide that you need to return to the aerodrome or airport during your flight, a refund isn’t possible.

Age: The minimum age we can accept is 18 years old. But there’s no maximum age limit

Height: Our height restriction is 6’6″ (198 cm). But there’s no minimum height.

Sight: Due to the location of various items in the cockpit and the possibility of abandoning the aircraft, we can’t fly those who are legally blind

Hearing: You must be able to hear the pre-flight briefing and our operations staff and pilot should be able to communicate with you at a reasonable volume. Under exceptional circumstances, hearing aids may be worn subject to the approval of the operations officers and the pilot. We can’t fly those who are deaf

We offer Spitfire passenger flights all year round. So whether you’re booking for a special day, coming as part of your holiday or just want to see Britain from above at a certain time of year, you can fly a Spitfire at a time that suits you.

Not necessarily. We’ve designed the suggested route to demonstrate the beautiful surroundings of the locations we fly from. But if you’d prefer to fly to a specific location, you can under the following conditions:

• The area isn’t inside restricted airspace
• There are no built-up areas
• It isn’t beyond gliding distance of land
• There’s suitable visibility and no clouds that could restrict us from flying at a safe altitude
• We can achieve this route within the flight time
